Toxins + Anxiety
Toxins + Anxiety
Some people may wonder why I have multiple businesses... It's all related, and this blog post shares how and why.
I will forever advocate for non-toxic living in support of healthier lifestyles and ultimately being a component to being able to manage our anxiety.
Removing toxins should be slow and steady. But it's incredibly necessary for a million different reasons.
Helping to manage anxiety? This is one reason. Here’s why.
Anxiety isn’t a random emotion. It’s a neurological response. Sometimes from traumas. Sometimes from life events. Sometimes epigenetics.
… and sometimes it’s from a malfunctioning endocrine system.
What is the endocrine system?
The endocrine system is a complex network of glands and organs. It uses hormones to control and coordinate your body’s metabolism, energy level, reproduction, growth and development, response to injury, stress and mood.
Guess what is a huge player in the endocrine system? The hypothalamus.
Guess what part of the brain is our fight or flight (aka anxiety)? The hypothalamus.
Let’s circle back, so what’s the big deal with toxins? They are considered something called ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS. Yes, they are as awful as they sound.
What are endocrine disruptors?
They are natural or human made chemicals that may mimic or interfere with the body’s hormones (the endocrine system).
Now that we know what endocrine disruptors are, let’s take a look at some important numbers.
84,000
This is the number of endocrine disruptors/chemicals that can be used in our daily products, make up, lotions, cleaning supplies, etc.
1400
This is the approximate number of chemicals banned in Europe as they are found to cause cancer and other grave concerns.
11
This is the number of these SAME chemicals that are banned in the United States. That’s it folks. Only 11.
Just because the products are sold to us and considered “FDA approved” does NOT make them safe. We need to be our own advocates.
I have been working on my own Ditch and Switch process for several years now. It’s the process of removing one toxic item from your home and replacing it for a clean one. It takes time. We don’t need to do it overnight. I’m now at a point where almost everything in our home is non-toxic and I’m passionate about supporting women in this process for their mental health.
There are two companies in which I recommend most non-toxic products. You can check them out below.
Who needs help figuring out what to ditch and switch next? I can recommend lots of different product replacements. Shoot me an email and we’ll chat. Email me here.
