How to Set Goals
How to Set Goals
Setting goals can feel really hard and often really daunting.
Because let’s be real, we want big things. And then when we see those big things, our ego steps in and makes us think it’s impossible to reach.
But your ego is wrong.
Here are my simple steps to give you permission to dream big and then be able to find ease in reaching those goals. And I’m keeping it simple for you because we are really good at overcomplicating. And if it sounds too hard, we’ll stay in our space of “this is too hard” and not take action.
And my goal? For you to take action.
Step One
Dream Big. Let yourself think of the big dreams in every area of your life. Be specific.
Step Two
Pick one or two dreams. Make them goals. Choose a time period. A 3 month goal? 5 year goal?
Step Three
Reverse Engineer. Work from the top down. How do you get to that goal? These are your action steps. Even if you think they are crazy steps, work from the top down… down to where you are now. You’ll begin to see the action steps get smaller and easier.
Step Four
Get out your planner. Work from the bottom of your reversed list. Plan your actions for the week. If your goal is a few months or more than a year, find a special place in that planner to hold the steps for the future. But start scheduling what you need to do now.
Step Five
Weekly Check In. Are you taking action? Are you doing the thing? If not, why not? Is a limiting belief getting in the way? Who can keep you accountable? Go get them and sign them up.
Step Six
Continue planning your actions according to your reverse engineered list. And check in with your goal and the reverse engineer action steps to be sure that you’re still on track and that nothing needs to change. If it does, change your action steps.
Step Seven
Achieve goal. And celebrate.
